The Private Drive To Rochford Park Cottages

This is an 800 acre mixed farm.  The crops grown
this season are winter wheat, barley and oil seed
rape; spring barley and field beans as well as
crops that are grown for the benefit of our cattle -
maize and lupins.
Pedigree Charolais Cattle
We breed pedigree Charolais cattle.  Originally from the Burgundy region of France they were the first continental beef
breed imported to improve beef production in this country.  They have become the favourite terminal sire in both
suckler and dairy herds because of their good conformation and fast growth rates of their progeny.
There are descendents of some world famous individuals and Royal Show Champions (some of which we bred
ourselves) in our herd.  We have some 60 breeding cows here and, with their progeny, about 150 head of cattle.
Any black and white cows among them are recipients - surrogate mothers to embryo calves.

Visitors are welcome.  Young stock and embryos are available all year round.  For information
please contact Herds Manager, Paul Burgess, on 01584 781681 or mobile 07950 717796,
 or the owner.

Our chickens are Buff Orpingtons, a breed
favoured by the late Queen Mother.  The other
farm birds here are guinea fowl or gallini, as
they are known locally.

There are three ponds on the farm, the largest,
Kyre Pool, is about 400 years old and was built to
provide water and fresh water fish to Kyre House.
We created Lower Kyre Pool that borders the
established lake.

We also created Hanging Grove Pool and dedicated the neighbouring field to permanent set-aside; we  are gratified
to see that both new pools have been adopted by a variety of water fowl - swans, ducks, etc. and insects:
There are at least four types of dragonflies to be seen here.  Kyre Pool is home to great crested grebes - the first
pair was released here by Sir Peter Scott in the early 1960's - and kingfishers.  Hanging Grove Pool is stocked with

rainbow trout and provides fishing for those of our visitors who enjoy angling.

About 100 acres of the farm are woodlands with plentiful paths and rides suitable for walking, riding or mountain biking.
There is a 9-hole golf course on a farm next door that can be reached either by using public footpaths or by driving to it.
